Posh Women back on the road on Sunday afternoon.
Peterborough United Women face Leek Town Ladies on Sunday afternoon (3pm) at The F. Ball Community Stadium in their penultimate game of the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands.
Dan Lawlor’s side returned to winning ways last weekend with an impressive 2-1 victory over league champions Stourbridge FC Women, while a potential victory on this Sunday could see Posh secure a top-four finish.
Leek Town Ladies confirmed their survival in the FA Women’s National League after Wem Town Ladies fell to a 3-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers Belles, securing their relegation alongside Long Eaton United Ladies. The two sides met in February at the Abbey Lawn as Posh ran out 4-2 winners, with goals from Tara Kirk, Jess Driscoll, Jess Evans and Megan Lawlor.
Team News
Midfielder Rosie Axten returned to the matchday squad last weekend against Stourbridge Women, coming on as a substitute in the final 10 minutes, and she is expected to be involved once again this Sunday. Jess Evans is set to miss the trip to Leek Town, but could return for the final game of the season against Doncaster Rovers Belles.
Jess Driscoll, Eden Bailey, Beatriz Borque and Zaiga Lacite all remain out injured, while a number of Development Squad players could be called up.
From The Gaffer
“Leek Town have been in a relegation battle for the majority of the season and we also beat them at home in the reserve fixture, so they will look for revenge and want to beat us. Every game at this level is tough and to travel to Leek, one of the furthest trips this season, is a really tough place to go and we will need to be mentally and physically focused.
“We need to be confident when we are not playing at home and as I have said previously, if we had been more consistent on the road, then we might have pushed Stourbridge a little more. We need to get into the habit of winning games wherever that will be and I don’t want us to be a team that really struggles away, we need to have that consistency if we want to compete at the top end of this league.”
