We look ahead to Friday morning’s pre-season friendly against Leyton Orient, which is taking place in Portugal.
After a hugely beneficial training camp in Portugal, Peterborough United end their week with the opening pre-season friendly of the campaign as Sky Bet League Two side Leyton Orient provide the opposition at the Municipal de Lagos Stadium, Tapada de Sao Joao, 8600 in Lagos, with the game getting underway at 11am.
Orient have been out in Portugal since last weekend and were beaten 2-1 by Championship side West Bromwich Albion at the same venue earlier this week. Richie Wellens’ men were 2-0 down before pulling a goal back in the second half but put in a strong performance against Steve Bruce’s Baggies.
TEAM NEWS
Posh will field a completely different XI in the second half to the side that starts the fixture as players get minutes into the tank before the flight home on Saturday to the UK. Emmanuel Fernandez didn’t travel to Portugal due to a hamstring injury, while defender Dan Butler has been working hard this week as he continues his road back to full fitness.
Midfielder Oliver Norburn is back in the UK continuing his rehabilitation from a serious knee injury with no timescale put on his return. Summer signings Harvey Cartwright, Lucas Bergstrom, David Ajiboye, Ben Thompson and Hector Kyprianou are all expected to play 45 minutes.
FROM THE MANAGER
“The lads have worked really hard in Portugal this week and now we look forward to the first game of the programme against Leyton Orient. I am not really looking for anything other than minutes for the players from the game. It is a good opportunity for me and the rest of the coaching staff to see the players in a game scenario. Everyone will get 45 minutes and then we return to Peterborough for another busy week with plenty of games to look forward too,” Grant McCann said.
