A look ahead to the Sky Bet League One clash between Leyton Orient and The Posh at the Gaughan Group Stadium on Easter Monday (3pm).
Peterborough United make the first of two trips to the capital this week on Easter Monday with Darren Ferguson’s men in action against Leyton Orient at the Gaughan Group Stadium in Sky Bet League One action (3pm).
Posh go into the game off the back of two defeats in a row at the Weston Homes Stadium with the second loss coming against struggling Carlisle United on Good Friday. Jon Mellish bagged a hat-trick for the Cumbrians as Ferguson’s men lost ground on the top two.
Orient have enjoyed an excellent campaign following promotion last term and will feel they still have a sniff from getting into the play-off picture, although their results have tailed off in recent weeks.
TEAM NEWS
Midfielder Hector Kyprianou is back and available for selection after completing a two-match ban for reaching 10 yellow cards. The Cyprus international is expected to come straight back into the XI with boss Ferguson confirming in a pre-match interview with Posh+ that there will be ‘changes’ to his side for the clash with the O’s.
Will Blackmore and Jeando Fuchs are both injured, while Jacob Wakeling and James Dornelly could feature for the Under 21s against AFC Rushden and Diamonds on Thursday night in the Hillier Cup semi-final.
Leyton Orient will be without multiple players for this match, leaving Wellens with plenty to think about regarding his team selection. Theo Archibald and Jordan Graham are set to extend their time on the sidelines, while Idris El Mizouni is a doubt after being forced off due to injury in the previous outing.
Ethan Galbraith is the most likely to fill in for Mizouni, having returned to the bench in the game against Lincoln City after serving his suspension.
ONE TO WATCH
George Moncur
George Moncur became the O's second summer signing of the 2022/23 summer transfer window when he signed for the club on June 29th. Moncur, who started his career at West Ham United, has signed for the O's from Championship side, Hull City.
A technical midfielder with an eye for goal, Moncur has two promotions to the Championship on his CV, and poses a deadly threat from set-pieces. After several loan spells away from Upton Park in the early stages of his career, the former England Under-18 international completed a permanent transfer to then League One, Colchester United, where he made 69 league appearances over two seasons, scoring 17 goals.
His form caught the eye of Championship-bound Barnsley, where he moved to the club for a fee in the region of £500,000. In three seasons at Oakwell, he made 78 appearances in all competitions, hitting the back of the net nine times. In January of 2019, he signed for promotion-chasing Luton Town, where he scored six goals in 14 matches to fire the side back to the second tier of English football for the first time in 12 seasons.
Upon leaving Luton, he joined Hull City, which is where he has spent his time until joining us here in E10. Leyton Orient is a club that has already played a part in George's past, as he is the older brother of former O, Freddy Moncur. George made his Orient debut in the pre-season clash versus Harringey Borough on July 1st 2022.
FROM THE MANAGER
“The players were in on Saturday and we have put Friday’s performance to bed. We have to look forward. It is a good thing in my opinion that we have a game so quickly. It will be a tough game, they are a good side, but we have a sold out away following making the trip and we need to make sure the performance is right from minute one,” Darren Ferguson said.
TICKET NEWS
The game is a sell-out for Posh fans with 1,200 making the trip to the capital. No tickets are available on the day.
