A look ahead to Monday night's Sky Bet League One fixture at Sixfields (8pm).
Peterborough United return to action on Monday evening with a trip to Sixfields to face local rivals Northampton Town in Sky Bet League One action (8pm) with Darren Ferguson's men looking to bounce back from the disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Burton Albion.
The game with the Cobblers will be televised live by Sky Sports with a capacity crowd expected for the Nene derby. Northampton parted company with their manager Jon Brady ahead of the weekend with the former youth coach handing his resignation in following a 2-0 defeat at Stevenage. Ian Sampson will be in the dugout for the home side.
TEAM NEWS
Posh were dealt a huge blow with Kwame Poku set to be out for up to three months with a hamstring injury sustained in the defeat to Burton. Poku underwent a scan prior to the weekend and that confirmed the worst possible news with the winger, who won back to back League One Player of the Month awards, set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
Hector Kyprianou, Chris Conn-Clarke and Emmanuel Fernandez are available for selection, the latter missed the defeat to the Brewers due to suspension.
Goalkeeper Jed Steer will return to training this week with illness hampering his return to action, while Rio Adebisi, Bradley Ihionvien and Mahamadou Susoho remain out.
Northampton are having to cope with a lengthy injury list, which includes Ali Koiki, Luke Mbete, Patrick Brough, Tyler Magloire, Jack Baldwin and Callum Morton.
Goalkeeper Lee Burge is set to miss a second straight game with a knee injury, ensuring Nik Tzanev will retain his place for Monday's fixture.
Nesta Guinness-Walker and Ben Fox will have to be assessed after they were forced off against Stevenage, while Tom Eaves will serve a one-match suspension after being sent off in the 28th minute of Tuesday's defeat.
MANAGER QUOTES
"I watched Northampton's defeat to Stevenage on Tuesday night, but it was a difficult game to assess because Northampton had a player sent off and they just sat in. Obviously Jon Brady left after that game and they have an interim manager so it is even more vital that we concentrate on ourselves and how we can affect the game. I am sure the performance in terms of our attacking threat against Burton won't be repeated. That was not like us,” Darren Ferguson said.
ONE TO WATCH
Northampton Town signed winger Tariqe Fosu (pictured below) in August 2024. Fosu began his career at Reading before moving to Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee, making 57 appearances and scoring eleven goals for the Addicks before moving to Oxford United for an undisclosed fee where he scored eight times in 25 games.
His next stop was Brentford after a £750,000 release clause in his contract was met where he scored five times in 50 games, including playing in the Championship play off final in both 2020 and 2021, indeed he was a regular in the side in 2020/21 as he helped the Bees in to the Premier League, being nominated for the January 2021 Championship player of the month award. In 2022/23 he enjoyed loan spells with both Stoke City and Rotherham United, playing 39 times in the Championship during the campaign. He was set to join Turkish Super League club Hatayspor in 2023 but the move didn't materialise and he spent the 2023/24 season on trial in the MLS.
