Posh Women Development Squad begin their Northants County Cup campaign on Sunday afternoon.
The Posh Women Development Squad travel a short distance across the city to the Bee Arena on Sunday afternoon (2pm) as they face Peterborough Sports Ladies in the second round of the Northants FA County Cup.
Peterborough Sports FC Ladies progressed from the first round after a 3-1 victory over Long Buckley FC Ladies whereas the Posh Women Development Squad received a bye into the second round. Shaun Harley’s side enter the game full of confidence as they have won four back-to-back league games, including last weekend’s 6-1 comfortable victory over Coalville Town.
Peterborough Sports Ladies FC currently play two divisions below in the Cambridgeshire Girls and Women’s Football League Division Two. They currently sit fifth, however, have only played two league games as they have journeyed through the women’s league cup to round two as well as the County Cup.
Team News
The Posh Women Development Squad have numerous faces returning to the team this weekend, including centre-back Hannah Johnson, who has recovered from a knee injury and forward Ellie Scotland who prepares to play her first game since August. Fellow forward Emmi Russell is ruled out after suffering a knee injury in the last match.
Peterborough Sports Ladies will be hoping that sisters Katie and Codie Steward will continue their ruthlessness in front of goal, scoring a combined eight goals in five games.
From The Gaffer
“It’s a derby day so we are expecting a very tough game. They rested a few players in their other cup last weekend in preparation for this game, so we know the game is important. I don’t think as a squad we need to change anything going into this game, we’ve been playing well and it’s now four league wins on the bounce, so we will take that form into the game and keep doing what we are doing.”
