FA Youth Cup Match Preview

Peterborough United Under 18s will be keen to make it two wins on the bounce when they host Northampton Town in the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday (7pm).

Posh Under 18s are in FA Youth Cup action on Wednesday evening with a first round tie against local rivals Northampton Town at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Eddie Fox’s brace inspired Posh to a 4-0 victory over Birmingham City last time out, while Northampton head into the Nene derby on the back of a 3-0 defeat at Stevenage Town in the Youth Alliance League.

Reuben Wyatt’s late free-kick secured the victory for the Cobblers when the two sides met back in 2022; Ollie Rose, James Dornelly and Harley Mills all featured for Posh in that 3-2 defeat and have since made their first team debut.

TEAM NEWS

Posh Under 18s will be without the service of Max Beech on Saturday nears a return to full fitness on his knee. Milan Kovaci also misses out as expected and is on track to complete his return within the New Year.

Apart from the two absentees, Unwin has confirmed that he has a clean bill of health ahead of Wednesday.

THE OPPOSITION

Shane Goddard’s side sit in 15th after a difficult start to the Youth Alliance Southern section. The Cobblers opened their account with back-to-back victories over Portsmouth and Bristol Rovers but are since winless and search for a first victory since August as they make the short trip to PE2 on Wednesday.

FROM THE MANAGER

“I’m looking forward to it. It will be a great opportunity for the boys to showcase what they are all about [at the Weston Homes Stadium] – and hopefully put on a show. It was a great win at the weekend – I was really pleased with how we played and the attitude from everyone… the whole squad contributed to a really good performance. It has been coming for a while and it was one of those days where everything clicked, so hopefully we can do the same on Wednesday,” Jimmy Unwin said.
