Posh v Charlton Athletic

A look ahead to Saturday's Sky Bet League One clash with Charlton Athletic at the Weston Homes Stadium (3pm).

Peterborough United are back in action in PE2 on Saturday afternoon as two of the teams most in-form in the division go head to head with Nathan Jones' Charlton Athletic visiting Darren Ferguson's men at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Posh have not been beaten since they faced the Addicks at the Valley, while Charlton used that victory to spearhead their assault on the top two and whilst it is unlikely they will gatecrash that party with Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham favourites to follow Birmingham City into the Championship, their form is a concern for those aforementioned teams.

Ferguson's men go into the game on the back of a 1-0 victory over local rivals Cambridge United at the Cledara Abbey Stadium, while Charlton were winners over Wigan Athletic.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are without the services of skipper Hector Kyprianou as he is away with Cyprus, while the match-winner at Cambridge, Tayo Edun, is suspended following his red card against the U's.

Rio Adebisi and Gustav Lindgren remain sidelined due to injury, while Donay O'Brien-Brady, Will Blackmore and George Nevett featured for the Under 21s on Friday at Birmingham City.

Winger Daniel Kanu has been sent for a scan after picking up an ankle knock playing for Charlton's Under 21s earlier this week, but there is better news on Josh Edwards, who could return to the squad.

MANAGER QUOTE

"Charlton are in excellent form and it is not hard to see why because they have some good players, particularly atthe top end of the pitch. Matty Godden is definitely a Championship striker. Conor Coventry is a good passer of the football. We didn't play well in the first half at the Valley and I changed the formation from the start to a back three, which didn't work. I will have to make at least two changes with Tayo suspended and Hector away with Cyprus," Ferguson said.

ONE TO WATCH

Matt Godden

Experienced striker Matty Godden (pictured below) arrived at Charlton in July 2024, signing a two-year deal, with a club option of a further year. The Canterbury-born forward began his career with Scunthorpe United, where he progressed through the youth ranks to make his professional debut in September 2010 in an EFL Cup tie against Manchester United.

Godden was prolific during a spell at Stevenage before joining Peterborough United. After bagging 18 goals in his debut season with Posh, he made the move to Coventry where he tasted promotion to the Championship in his inaugural campaign and has since remained a key part of the Sky Blues’ squad.

Bringing a wealth of experience with 460 career appearances, Godden joins the Addicks following a successful five-year spell at the Coventry Building Society Arena, where he scored 50 goals in 110 starts.
