A look ahead to the Sky Bet League One clash between Posh and Northampton Town at the Weston Homes Stadum on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).
Peterborough United welcome Northampton Town to the Weston Homes Stadium on Tuesday evening in Sky Bet League One action (7.45pm) with Darren Ferguson’s men looking to make it four wins in all competitions in a row following victories at Blackpool, Cambridge United and against Exeter City on Saturday.
With only three games taking place on the night, including Barnsley v Bolton Wanderers, Posh can extend the advantage over 7th placed Oxford United to eight points with a victory and will still have a game in hand on the U’s.
The Cobblers are enjoying a fine campaign and are not out of the play-off picture, currently occupying 12th place in the table following Saturday’s hard-fought 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic at Sixfields.
TEAM NEWS
Striker Ricky-Jade Jones continues to be assessed after he was forced off during Saturday’s win over Exeter City. Manager Darren Ferguson has described him as a ‘doubt’ for the clash with the Cobblers. Jacob Wakeling, James Dornelly and Will Blackmore remain on the side-lines, while Jeando Fuchs is out for the season with a knee injury.
Northampton are contending with an injury list that features Akin Odimayo, Danny Hylton, Ali Koiki and Tyler Magloire. Appere could be rewarded with a starting place after he came off the bench to score the all-important equaliser in Saturday's draw with Charlton. Ben Fox dropped out of the starting lineup at the weekend, but the midfielder could be brought back into the squad for the game.

Northampton Town signed striker Sam Hoskins after a successful trial spell in August 2015. Hoskins began his career at Southampton, making four substitute appearances before loan spells with Rotherham United and Stevenage. He moved to Yeovil in the summer of 2013 and in his two years at Huish Park enjoyed a loan spell with Barnet, scoring twice in six games. He signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract at the PTS Academy Stadium in December 2017.
He won the club's Goal of the Season Award in 2018/19 and scored at Wembley in the 2020 League Two play-off final as the Cobblers beat Exeter City 4-0. He signed another new 2 year contract in July 2020 and another new contract in February 2022. He scored 22 goals in 2022/23, becoming the first Northampton Town player to score 20 or more league goals in a season since 1987, scoring the goal to secure promotion back to League One.
Was named in the League Two Team of the Season, was also the League Two Player of the Season in 2022/23 and swept the board at the club’s Player of the Season awards. Signed a new contract at Sixfields in August 2023 having been appointed club captain and is the club’s top scorer again this term.
FROM THE MANAGER
“Jon has done a brilliant job at Northampton when you consider the budget, the expectation and everything that goes with that. They have changed a little bit, they get the ball down and build play and they have picked up some good results along the way. We have to focus on ourselves though, we can’t afford too many more slip-ups.” Darren Ferguson said.
