A look ahead to Wednesday night’s fixture with Swansea City.
Peterborough United entertain Swansea City at the Weston Homes Stadium in Sky Bet Championship action on Wednesday evening (7.45pm) with Grant McCann’s men looking to build on two good performances against AFC Bournemouth and Stoke City.
With Derby County, Barnsley and Reading all in action on Tuesday night, Posh will go into the fixture with the Swans aware of the ever-changing situation near the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table.
Posh go into the clash on the back of a 2-2 draw with Stoke City on Saturday, while Russell Martin’s Swansea side were beaten 1-0 by Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.
TEAM NEWS
Posh welcome back Sammie Szmodics to the squad after he missed the weekend draw with a slight muscle injury. Nathan Thompson, Dan Butler and Joel Randall are side-lined, but Jack Taylor continues to build minutes in the line-up after a six-week lay-off with a hamstring injury.
For the Swans, they are without defender Ryan Manning who is serving a four-match ban while former Posh central defender Ryan Bennett wasn’t involved at the weekend. Kyle Joseph is pushing for a berth in the squad after impressing for the under 23s.
FROM THE GAFFER
“Swansea are a possession-based side and we will have to be disciplined in our approach when we don’t have the ball, but when we get it, we need to be aggressive and show good application. We want to build on the last two performances, it has been good over the past few days to be on the training ground with the players and we are looking forward to the game,” Grant McCann said.
FROM THE OPPOSITION
“We all recognise that we need to be more proactive in the final third, I think everyone would admit that. It’s something we know we need to improve on. We need to take more risks in the final third – that will help.
“I think it’s part of the process with us learning and getting better as a group. They’ll be loads of stuff we’ve learned from Saturday’s game and how we can be better, and the next opportunity to put that right is on Wednesday,” Technical development coach and former Posh midfielder Mathew Gill said.
