Posh Women Development Squad host Loughborough Foxes in their final game of the season.
Peterborough United Women Development Squad play their final match of the season on Sunday afternoon (3pm) as they entertain Loughborough Foxes at the idverde Training Ground in the East Midland’s Women’s Regional Football League Division One South.
The Development Squad will be looking to return to winning ways having battled out in a 3-2 loss against promotion-chasing Dunton & Broughton United Ladies last weekend. Opponents Loughborough Foxes haven’t gained a point since the reverse fixture in the middle of December, however, have performed well in the league plate, earning a place in the final.
Shaun Harley’s side have several late fitness tests pending on centre-backs Hannah Johnson and Leah Barnes, who sustained injuries in last weekend’s loss. Kacey Sharman has been ruled out of the match entirely having limped out of the Dunton & Broughton game early on.
Goalkeeper Danni Cooper-King will return to the matchday squad for the first time in three months after recovering from a hip injury. The Posh defence will need to watch out for Loughborough Foxes’ forward Renae Huggan-Broughton who has netted 12 goals in just eight appearances this season.
Manager Shaun Harley spoke before the game, “We will be going into Sunday looking to find the form we had a few games ago and obviously make amends from last Sunday’s loss. We didn’t play great, but we scored two goals, so there is a positive and we will look to build on that. We are aware of Loughborough’s league form, but we cannot shadow away from the fact they are in the League Plate final. It’s going to be a tough game but one we can win. Whatever happens on Sunday, overall it’s been a positive season for us."
