Posh Women Under 23s host The Reds on Sunday afternoon.

Peterborough United Women Under 23s continue their FA Women’s National League Reserves Midlands Division campaign on Sunday afternoon (3pm) as they host Barnsley Women Development at the idverde Training Ground.

The Posh continue their search for a first league win of the season and currently sit ninth in the table after one draw from four games. Michael Allsebrook’s followed a 1-1 draw with early leaders Doncaster Belles Development with a 4-1 loss at Stoke City Development last weekend.

Opponents, Barnsley Women Development, are sixth in the table with one win and one draw from their opening four games, including a 12-2 win over Boldmere St Michael’s.

Team News

Allsebrook confirmed that he will have a sizeable squad to select from. Poppy Clapson made her first appearance of the bench last weekend as she recovered from injury and will be looking to get more minutes this weekend. Top scorer Georgie Oliver will be looking to add to her goals tally after netting in four of the five matches for the under 23s this campaign.

Bethany Howarth is currently top-scorer for Barnsley Women Development with four goals in four appearances.

From The Gaffer

Allsebrook said: “It’s nice to be at home; we’re good at home and used to the pitch here and the environment. Hopefully that gives us an advantage but we need to perform well both home and away. The team we put out on Sunday in terms of talent was more than good enough to win it but we need more than that. This weekend there will be a change in the line-up; you will see a reaction. We will have different personalities on the pitch which will give us everything.”

“Barnsley are a team like us in terms of inconsistency with their results. In this league it’s easy to get into that way with the teams in the division. We have to get our performances right first to be able to get anything from the game but so far it hasn’t been that way. We need to do the right things to win a game of football and until we do that, we’re not going to pick up points. We fully believe we have a good squad it’s just trying to get things to click on the pitch.”

Updates of the game will be available on The Posh Girls Academy X account, with post-match reaction also on the website.
