LEAFIELD H

A look ahead to the FA Women’s National League fixture against Leafield Athletic Ladies at the Abbey Lawn on Sunday afternoon (2pm).

Peterborough United Women host their final match at Abbey Lawn this season as they welcome Leafield Athletic this weekend.

Jake Poole’s side were without a fixture last weekend but will be keen to continue an eight-game unbeaten run stretching back to the middle of January. Posh won 1-0 away at Lincoln United in their most recent match, with captain Keir Perkins netting the decisive goal. Posh now sit third on 47 points from 20 matches, four points off current leaders Loughborough Lightning who have a game in hand. Any points gained in their final two matches would see Posh break their record points tally at Tier 4 level.

Opponents, Leafield Athletic, are currently one place and two points behind Posh. They most recently lost 4-3 to leaders Loughborough Lightning. A win for Leafield this weekend would see them overtake Posh into third position.

Team News

Jake Poole spoke to Posh+ ahead of the game and confirmed that Emily Meli and Ella Bale have recovered from their recent respective injuries whilst Rebecca Mears’ recent performances will ensure she remains involved within the first team group.

From The Gaffer

Jake Poole said ahead of the game: “It’s going to be a tough game against a side that has risen in recent seasons, and certainly deserve to be where they are at right now. They’ve got a strong group of players who are well organised and understand the way they want to play. It will be a tough test like we found out last time out. It was our first league defeat of the season and hopefully we can learn from those mistakes this time around.”

One To Watch

Evangeline Gallop is top scorer for Leafield Athletic this season, netting 15 goals in just 17 appearances.

Last Time Out

The sides met in the reverse fixture back in November at Castle Vale Football Stadium with the hosts edging out Posh with a 2-1 win. Abi Louise Cowie broke the deadlock after the half hour mark before Tara Kirk equalised for Posh in the second half. Leafield claimed all three points as Tiara Jade netted the winner in stoppage time.
