Posh Women V Northampton Town

A look ahead to the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands clash between Posh Women and Northampton Town Women at Abbey Lawn.

Peterborough United Women welcome local rivals Northampton Town Women to the Abbey Lawn on Sunday afternoon (2pm) with Jake Poole’s side looking to bounce back from their stoppage time defeat away at Leafield Athletic last weekend.

Opponents, the Cobblers’ sit one point behind Posh in third place having won eight of their opening nine games this season. Unbeaten since the opening match of the campaign, Northampton most recently won 7-1 at home against Solihull Moors.

Team News

Assistant manager, Georgia Clarke, confirmed that several players are recovering from niggles and injuries sustained in last weekend’s loss. Jess Stanford remains a long-term absentee as she recovers from an ACL injury whilst Ellie York edges closer to a return to match action.

From The Coach

Speaking to Posh+ ahead of the game, Georgia Clarke said: “I’ve watched it a few times over the years so I have a good idea of what to expect. We know it’s going to be tough and that element of a derby game can maybe make it a little different to other league games. It’s almost like a cup final feeling; that’s the vibe around the game. For us it’s about executing our game plan and trusting the way that we want to do things, and do that better than we did last Sunday.”

One To Watch

Jade Bell is this season’s current top scorer for both Northampton Town and the FAWNL Division One Midlands with 17 goals in 12 matches this campaign.

Last Time Out

Posh Women and Northampton Town met competitively twice in April earlier this year. Posh hosted the Cobblers’ on the 14th April in the league and ran out 2-1 winners courtesy of goals from Evie Driscoll-King and Renai Bennett. Seven days later, they met at the Dog & Duck Stadium in the Northamptonshire County Cup final where the Cobblers’ won 3-1; Tara Kirk grabbing the consolation goal for Posh.
