A look ahead to the FA Women’s National League fixture against The Reds’ at the Abbey Lawn on Sunday afternoon (2pm).

Peterborough United Women begin 2025 at home as they host Barnsley Women at the Abbey Lawn in their latest FAWNL Division One Midlands fixture.

Jake Poole’s side ended 2024 with back-to-back wins in December; a late 1-0 win over Worcester City before hitting 10 past Lincoln City before the winter break. The Posh sit in second place on 31 points, two points off first place Northampton Town.

Barnsley are currently sixth in the table with 19 points, and entered the winter break with a 3-2 defeat against Leafield Athletic.

Team News
Jake Poole spoke to Posh+ ahead of the game and confirmed that he has a large squad at his disposal with the winter break allowing several players to recover from injuries. Tara Kirk will be looking to add to the eight goals she scored in the first half of the season, with captain Kier Perkins and midfielder Renai Bennett hot on her tails; the latter enjoying a personal prolific spell in front of goal.

From The Gaffer
Jake Poole said ahead of the game: “It’s been a nice break and good to spend time away from football but we’ve also spent valuable time on the training pitch. I’m really excited to get back with a long run of games coming up with lots of challenging fixtures. We always get good support down at Bourne so it will be great to welcome fans in the new year.

“Barnsley will be a really good opposition who will provide us with a competitive game. It will be nice to play them on familiar territory. It was a tough game down at Barnsley on a 3G pitch; it was a tight pitch and the conditions were tricky. They defended well and looked a threat on the counter.”

One To Watch
Jodie Michalska is in prolific form for the Reds’ with 12 goals in 13 appearances so far this season. She netted once in four appearances for the First Team in the previous campaign.

Last Time Out
The sides met in the reverse fixture back in September at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park with Posh claiming all three points. Michalska was on target for the home side before Katie Middleton equalised. Frankie Pim came off the bench to secure the win in stoppage time for the Posh.
