Posh Women face Burton Albion in the third qualifying round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
Peterborough United Women welcome Burton Albion to Deeping Rangers FC on Sunday afternoon (2pm) in the third qualifying round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
Jake Poole’s side continued their unbeaten start to the season as they from 3-0 behind to secure a 4-3 win at Notts County courtesy of a brace from Lauren Wilshaw, a header from Evie Driscoll-King and a late spot-kick from Renai Bennett.
The Posh Women will be looking to take their form into the FA Cup and replicate their success in recent seasons. Posh bowed out to FAWNL Northern Premier Division side Wolverhampton Wanderers in the second round last year but reached the third round the previous year where they lost to Championship side Durham Women.
Opponents, Burton Albion, compete in the West Midland’s Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division – the tier below Posh – where they currently sit fifth in the table having won two of their opening three games this season.
Team News
Speaking to Posh+ ahead of Sunday’s game, Poole confirmed that he has a near fully fit squad to select from with Tara Kirk back in training after recovering from her recent knee injury. Frankie Pim is back available having netted four goals for the Under 23s last weekend, in a game which fellow forward Emily Meli also netted two goals.
From The Gaffer
Speaking to Posh+, Jake Poole said: “Hopefully the start of a long and exciting journey in the FA Cup. There’s always that thrill and excitement to these games. It’s important we go into the game in the same energy. If we play to our best then we will be extremely competitive.
“It’s nice to be at home, it brings the romance of the competition more. It also allows us to play teams that we don’t normally play against like Burton. We don’t know too much about Burton but that allows us to focus more on ourselves.”
One To Watch
Burton Albion Women’s current top scorer is Millie Drinkhall who has netted four goals in as many matches this campaign.
