Posh Women prepare to face The U’s on Sunday afternoon.
Peterborough United Women return to the Abbey Lawn on Sunday afternoon (2pm) as they host local rivals Cambridge United Women in their penultimate fixture of pre-season.
Dan Lawlor’s side secured back-to-back victories over the past seven days with a 3-2 win over Royston Town Women on Wednesday evening following last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Norwich City Women, with Kate Middleton and Jess Driscoll on the scoresheet during the week.
Opponents, Cambridge United Women, compete in the FA Women’s National League Division One South East and finished eighth last season. The U’s were last in action last Sunday as they secured a 2-0 victory over Stevenage after goals from Bella Simmons and Sarah Wiltshire.
Team News
Dan Lawlor has almost a full squad to select from, with Poppie Brown and Niamh Connor are unavailable but both are expected to return before the start of the season, while long-term absentees Zaiga Làcìte and Eden Bailey remain sidelined.
The midweek fixture saw Jess Evans return to action following her injury sustained in the opening pre-season fixture. Tara Kirk was also given her first 30 minutes of pre-season during the midweek victory against Royston Town and is set to continue her way to match fitness this weekend.
From The Gaffer
“Cambridge will provide another tough test for us this weekend. They play at the same level as we do, so the players will need to turn up on Sunday a lot more than they did on Wednesday night. The squad has definitely picked up in size as this pre-season has played out, which is a positive having more players at my disposal. The game at the weekend will mark a two-week countdown until our season starts, so we hope we enter the game on August 20th looking stronger.”
Ticket New
Tickets are priced at £5 for adults, £4 for seniors, £3 for under 18s and free for under 12s. Supporters can pay by cash or card on the game.
