Posh Women face The Imps on Wednesday evening at Abbey Lawn.
Peterborough United Women welcome Lincoln City Women to the Abbey Lawn on Wednesday evening (7:45pm) in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands after claiming their first victory of the league campaign on Sunday afternoon.
Dan Lawlor’s side secured a 4-2 victory over Sutton Coldfield Town Women on Sunday afternoon, with goals from Katie Middleton, Sophie Scargill, Evie Driscoll-King and Tara Kirk, and will look to make it three consecutive victories in all competitions.
The Imps have picked up four points in their opening two games of the campaign, including a 2-2 draw with Leek Town Ladies at the weekend with former Posh player Cassie Steward netting deep in injury-time to secure the point.
Team News
Eden Bailey and Zaiga Lacite are the only two players unavailable for the midweek clash against Lincoln City Women. New signing Renai Bennett, who joined the club from MK Dons Women last week, made her debut for the club in the victory over Sutton Coldfield Town and will be involved once again on Wednesday evening.
The Imps have strengthened their attacking options for the new campaign with the signing of Cassie Steward, who made over 60 appearances for Posh across a three-year spell, and made an instant impact by scoring the equaliser in the fifth minute of injury time on Sunday afternoon.
From The Gaffer
“Lincoln are a tough team to beat at this level, they know it very well and have some brilliant players. They are well set up and will be difficult to beat, so it’s going to be a very tough game for us. However, if we play like we did at the weekend, then we will cause them problems and just to have to make sure to take our opportunities. We are good at home, so that’s a positive we are back there on Wednesday. Also, beating Sutton Coldfield Town gives us that little boost and I will be confident as long as we turn up and do the right things.”
One To Watch
Experienced forward Toni McHamilton will be one to keep an eye on for The Imps on Wednesday. The forward finished as the club’s top goalscorer last season with 14 goals in 20 appearances and already has two to the tally for this campaign, contributing in their 6-2 victory over Notts County Women on the opening day of the season.
Previous Meeting
It was late drama when these two sides met in the FA Women’s National League last season. A spectacular solo goal from Jess Driscoll, picking up the ball from halfway line, evading challenges and advancing into the box before rounding the goalkeeper, secured a 2-1 victory over The Imps. The two teams haven’t met at Abbey Lawn before, with Posh facing The Imps at the Weston Homes Stadium in the reverse fixture last season, running out as 4-1 winners in front of over 2,000 supporters.
