Posh Women Face The Cobblers in the County Cup Final on Sunday afternoon.
Peterborough United Women face local rivals Northampton Town Women in the Northants County Cup Final on Sunday (2pm) at the Dog and Duck Stadium, the home of Wellingborough Town FC.
Posh breezed through the early stages of the competition where they claimed a comfortable 10-0 victory over Long Buckby AFC Ladies in the second round, before their emphatic 15-0 win over Bugbrooke St Michael’s in the quarter-finals. Dan Lawlor’s side booked their place in the final after two late goals from Meg Lawlor and Tara Kirk saw them run out 2-0 winners over Posh Women Under 23s.
The Cobblers achieved a home win walkover in the second round before they ran out 5-0 winners over Brackley Town Ladies in the quarter-finals. Josh Oldfield and Liam Williams’ side claimed their spot in the final after a 3-1 victory over Kettering Town Women at home.
With one fixture remaining, Northampton currently sit fifth in the league table, two places behind the Posh, having accumulated 35 points from 21 games.
Team News
Dan Lawlor confirmed that Jess Driscoll (now Stanford) won’t be in attendance this weekend, but ensured he has the rest of the squad at his disposal. Ellie York remains a long-term absentee as she recovers from an ACL injury.
From The Gaffer
“I’m looking forward to it. It’s exciting for us to be in the final yet again in a competition where we are currently the holders and to play against our local rivals, Northampton- what a game it’s going to be.
“I want us to be a bit uglier than we were on Sunday and stand up to the scrappy side of it because I thought they [Northampton] did that better than us. We’ve got to make sure that we match that and give a little bit more, then the quality we’ve got in this squad will certainly shine through.
“With cup finals, there is a little bit more to it than your average game, there’s a cup at stake. We need to make sure we go there and be us and that we’re the best version of us to leave us with the best chance of making sure that trophy comes back to Peterborough.”
