Posh Women Face The Cobblers' Development Squad in the County Cup Final.
Peterborough United Women face Northampton Town Women Development Squad in the Northants County Cup Final on Thursday evening (7:45pm) at the Dog and Duck Stadium, the home of Wellingborough Town.
Posh have breezed through the previous stages of the competition, overcoming Kettering Town Women in the second round before a comfortable victory over AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the quarter-final. Dan Lawlor’s side booked their place in the final after a 3-0 win over Northampton Town Women in the semi-final, with goals from Jess Evans, Keir Perkins and Jess Driscoll.
The Cobblers’ Development Squad have enjoyed a successful season in their respective league, winning the East Midlands Womens Regional Football League Division One South title last month, and will be looking to cause an upset against higher opposition.
Team News
Posh will be without a number of players on Thursday evening due to being cup-tied and having not played in previous rounds. Taylor Dean, Rosie Axten and Ellie York were signed after the semi-final fixture, while defender Elloise Copson failed to feature in the previous stages of the competition.
Beatriz Borque, Zaiga Lacite, Jess Driscoll and Eden Bailey all remain out due to injury but Dan Lawlor could welcome Andreia Oliveria and Nicole Hendrick back into the squad. Ellie Curson is also expected to return to the matchday squad having impressed in the earlier rounds for Posh.
From The Gaffer
“You can never take advantage of the team in front of you, no matter who the opposition is. This is the cup final, but it’s a huge game for them and they will want to make it a difficult game for us. They will know quite a lot about us as we have played their first team on three occasions this season and they will try to make it as hard as they can and hold out as long as possible.
“I said to the players before the Solihull Moors game that I wouldn’t want to heading into the cup final on the back of a defeat, so they turned up for that game and put in a good performance. We will take that into Thursday and hopefully put on a dominant display and bring that trophy back to Peterborough.”
