Posh Women face Khalsa Women on Sunday afternoon in the FA Women’s National League.
Peterborough United Women welcome Sporting Khalsa to Abbey Lawn on Sunday (2pm) in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands as they look to continue their winning streak.
Dan Lawlor’s side showcased their quality after they claimed a 15-0 victory over Bugbrooke St Michaels in the quarter-finals of the Northants County Cup on Sunday afternoon.
Khalsa are currently sat fourth in the table, two points behind the Posh, and secured a 5-0 win against Solihull Moors in their last league fixture at home.
Team News
Speaking to Posh+ ahead of the game, Lawlor confirmed that Keir Perkins and Ellie York will remain sidelined whilst recovering from their recent injuries. Unfortunately, Zaiga Lacite will also be sidelined after having sustained an injury during the match on Sunday.
Forward Tara Kirk has been in great form over the last few weeks, scoring six goals in two consecutive games and will look to continue her streak.
This week, Sporting Khalsa announced that, following a successful loan period, Skye Owen has been recalled by her parent club Wolves Women after scoring 21 goals in 25 appearances for the team. Khalsa also signed midfielder Ellie McGovern earlier this month who joins their squad after leaving Stourbridge FC Women.
From The Gaffer
“For Emily and Sinead coming in, I can imagine this week will be good for them because we’ve made Bourne our fortress. We’re good there, we're a lot better at home than we are away, so hopefully we can go there and put in a strong performance and everyone can see us have a good afternoon.”
“They’re [Khalsa] a very good side and have done a terrific job in terms of recruitment. They started probably a little bit slow, but the new players there now are starting to find their feet so it’ll be a really tough game- it’s going to take a very good Posh team to beat them.
“I’m actually really excited, it’s a home game against a good side and for us, these are the games you want to be playing and these are the teams you want to beat if you want to push the top end of this league.”
One To Watch
Forward Lowri Walker is one to watch ahead of this weekend’s fixture and is the club’s leading goalscorer after netting ten goals in 13 appearances so far this season. Olivia Owen is also one to watch after having been selected for the upcoming Welsh U19s Women’s National Team Training Camp.
Last Time Out
Both sides met on three occasions during the 2022/2023 campaign. Posh Women suffered defeat in their opening game of the season after a 2-0 loss against Khalsa but, thanks to Driscoll’s late strike, they secured a place over them in the third round of the FA Cup. The Posh also claimed three points at Abbey Lawn after a 2-0 victory back in February, thanks to goals from Tara Kirk and captain Kier Perkins.
Ticket News
Tickets are priced at £5 for adults, £4 for seniors, £3 for under 18s and free for under 12s. Supporters can pay by cash or card on the game.
