Posh Women face Sutton Coldfield in their first home league fixture of the 2023/24 campaign.
Peterborough United Women welcome Sutton Coldfield Town to the Abbey Lawn, the home of Bourne Town Football Club, for their first home game of the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands campaign on Sunday afternoon (2pm).
Posh kicked off their 2023/24 season with a 2-1 loss to rivals Northampton Town earlier this month, but claimed their first victory last weekend after a 3-2 win over Barnsley Women’s in the league cup.
The Royals were promoted to tier four for the first-time in their history and began life in the FA Women’s National League with three points after a 3-1 victory over Leek Town Ladies, with goals from Olivia Woolston, Chloe Handy and Rameyah Farquharson.
Team News
Dan Lawlor will see the return of midfielders Jess Evans and Jess Driscoll this weekend after both players were unavailable for last Sunday’s victory over Barnsley Women’s. Eden Bailey and Zaiga Lacite are the only players unavailable, with the latter returning to non-contact training this week.
The Royals have signed a number of experienced players at FA Women’s National League level, including former Sporting Khalsa forward Olivia Woolston, who scored 20 goals in 24 appearances last term.
From The Gaffer
“We will look to put in a very good performance against Sutton Coldfield, who are new to the league but they have signed good players that have experience at this level, so we will need to be cautious. However, when we are good, then we are going to be a very tough team to beat. Our home form last year was fantastic. We didn’t lose many home games at all and that’s something we want to continue ahead of the new campaign. We are very excited to be back home and playing competitive football in front of our loyal home supporters. I know how much this team loves having the supporters backing us, we get a drum down there and people making plenty of noise.”
One To Watch
Forward Olivia Woolston will be a key threat for Sutton Coldfield Town this weekend, with the ability to find the back of the net and her pace to cause real problems for defenders. She netted 20 goals in 24 appearances for Sporting Khalsa last season, helping them to a third-place finish in the table. Woolston has already got off the mark for The Royals, scoring in their opening-day win over Leek Town Ladies.
