Posh Women begin their pre-season schedule with a visit from Wolves Women.
Peterborough United Women are set to return to action on Sunday afternoon (2pm) as they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers Women to the Abbey Lawn, the home of Bourne Town Football Club, in the first game of their pre-season schedule.
Posh returned to pre-season at the beginning of the month and spent last weekend at Worksop College as part of a three-day training camp, but Sunday’s game will mark the start of their pre-season programme which will involve seven games over the next month.
Wolves finished second in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division, finishing level on points with league champions Nottingham Forest, missing out on goal difference.
Team news
Sophie Scargill, Alex O’Neill and Katie Middleton are all set to feature in Posh colours for the first time this weekend after joining the club last month. Zaiga Làcìte and Eden Bailey are the only two players unavailable, while a number of the under 23s could be called upon for the first pre-season game.
Wolves have bolstered their squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign with the signing of forward Olivia Fergusson from Scottish Women’s Premier League side Celtic FC Women.
From The Gaffer
“I think most managers will say this, but results don’t mean much during pre-season. I would say towards the end of pre-season you need to go into the start of the season with a few wins under your belt, but playing Wolves after only being in a week is going to be incredibly difficult. However, we have an identity of how we will play this season and will do that against Wolves this weekend.
“I’m just really excited to get going now and also looking forward to seeing what Wolves are about because of what they have achieved and how they are run, it’s a fantastic club with a brilliant set-up. I can’t wait to get pre-season started and test ourselves against higher-level opposition.”
Ticket News
Tickets are priced at £5 for adults, £4 for seniors, £3 for under 18s and free for under 12s. Supporters can pay by cash or card on the game.
