Posh Women travel to Rugby Borough Women in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup Second Round.

Peterborough United Women are in Adobe Women’s FA Cup action on Sunday afternoon (2pm) as they travel to Nationwide Windows Arena to face Northern Premier Division side Rugby Borough in the second round.

Jake Poole’s side will be looking to bounce back from their 2-0 loss against Northampton Town Women in the FAWNL Division One Midlands last weekend on their return to Abbey Lawn.

Opponents, Rugby Borough Women, currently sit fourth in the Northern Premier Division with seven wins and a draw from their opening ten matches. They most recently won 12-0 in the County Cup in Solihull Sporting Ladies before beating Hull City 4-0 in the league.

Team News

Speaking to Posh+ ahead of Sunday’s game, Poole confirmed he will have several players unavailable for the fixture. Hannah Dawbarn joins Ellie York and Jess Stanford on the sidelines following a knee injury she sustained against Leafield Athletic. Poole also confirmed that Kayleigh Hines is cup tied.

New signing Marthina Aguirre could make her debut for the club whilst Kayleigh Hines is cup-tied for this weekend having already featured for former club earlier this season.

From The Gaffer

Speaking to Posh+, Jake Poole said: “This weekend gives us the opportunity to learn from the mistakes we made last week as well as against Nottingham Forest who are a Northern Premier side too. The Billericay game was a benchmark for us; we were true to our side and showed our identity which bought out the best in us, whereas against Forest we probably changed too much.”

One To Watch

Yasmin Mosby and Angelina Nixon currently lead Rugby Borough’s goalscoring charts with ten goals from 12 and 11 games respectively.

Last Time In The FA Cup

Peterborough United Women secured their place in the second round with a penalty shoot-out win against Billericay Town earlier this month. Goals from Niamh Connor, an injury time equaliser from Niamh Reynolds and multiple saves from Neive Corry sent Posh to a penalty shoot-out where they won 4-2.
