Peterborough United Women Under 23s begin their FA Women’s National League Reserves Midlands Division campaign on Sunday afternoon (3pm) as they travel to Kilsby Lane to face Rugby Borough Women Development.
Posh started their 2024/25 campaign last weekend with a 5-2 win at the idverde Training Ground against Chorley Women Reserves in the FAWNL Reserves League Cup. This will be Michael Allsebrook’s sides’ second season in the reserves division having finished third in their inaugural campaign last year.
Opponents, Rugby Borough Women Development, have made the move over from the South East and Central Reserve Division. They finished bottom in their only season in that league with three wins and three draws from 18 games. They were knocked out of the FAWNL Reserves League Cup last weekend after suffering a 6-1 defeat to York City Reserves.
TEAM NEWS
Allsebrook confirmed that he will have a sizeable squad to select from with only Rebecca Mears and Poppy Clapson unavailable due to injuries.
Rugby Borough Women Development shared the goals amongst the squad last season, recording 18 different scorers. Isabel Mawby netted their consolation goal in last weekend’s cup defeat.
FROM THE GAFFER
Allsebrook said: “It’s exciting to finally get the league campaign underway. We had an excellent start in the league cup last weekend and the challenge is to maintain our level of performance moving into the league. We showed last year that we can find a level of consistency across a series of matches and we have to show that again this season. Recruitment has gone really well and we are delighted with the squad we have built moving forward into the season.
“Rugby are a team that deserve our full respect. Travelling away from home in this league is never straightforward and we know that we have to approach the game in the same manner as we did last week to give ourselves the best chance of gaining a positive outcome of the game.”
