Posh Women face The Royals on Sunday afternoon at The Central Ground.
Peterborough United Women are back on the road again on Sunday afternoon (2pm) as they travel to The Central Ground to face Sutton Coldfield Town FC Women in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands campaign.
Posh kicked off 2024 with a late 2-1 defeat to Boldmere St Michaels in their first league game since November, where forward Emily Brett netted her first goal for the club in her league debut. They face their fifth consecutive away game, across all competitions, this weekend against The Royals.
Sutton Coldfield Town were promoted to Tier four for the first-time in their history and started 2024 with three points after a 1-0 victory over Sheffield FC Women with a goal from Jordan Atkin. They currently sit seventh in the table.
Team News
Dan Lawlor confirmed captain Keir Perkins will continue to remain sidelined after having picked up an injury during the warm-up to Wolves in the FA Cup in November. Ellie York also stays side-lined after having sustained an ACL injury. However, Zaiga Lacite will be in contention for Sunday’s game after being ill.
The Royals have recently signed Meg Hadley, from Stourbridge FC Women after having won the league with them last year. Despite her young age, the defender brings much experience to their squad.
From The Gaffer
“We are expecting a tough game against Sutton Coldfield who have recruited really well, certainly over the last few weeks. It’ll be a challenge as they have players high up the pitch who can hurt you if you’re not switched on, concentrated and willing to defend the box well.”
“We will need to be braver in possession than last week and stick to the plan as we believe we have the quality to hurt anyone on our day.”
One To Watch
Forward Lois Jefferies will be a key threat for Sutton Coldfield Town this weekend after netting 9 goals in 10 games across all competitions. Jefferies joined The Royals from Stourbridge FC Women at the end of September after winning the league at Tier 4 with both Boldmere St Michaels and Stourbridge. Olivia Woolston also remains one to watch after scoring 8 goals so far this season. She netted 20 goals in 24 appearances for Sporting Khalsa last season, helping them to a third-place finish in the table.
Last Time Out
Posh secured three points against The Royals at Abbey Lawn back in early September after a 4-2 victory. Sutton Coldfield broke the deadlock on eight minutes thanks to Chloe Handy before the Posh netted four goals from Sophie Scargill (pictured above), Tara Kirk, Evie Driscoll-King and Katie Middleton. In the closing stages, the visitors pulled a goal back in injury-time.
