Wellingborough V Posh Women

Posh Women are set to travel to Wellingborough Town in the Northamptonshire County Cup semi-finals.

Peterborough United Women face Wellingborough Town Ladies in the Northamptonshire County Cup semi-finals on Sunday afternoon (2pm) at the Dog & Duck Stadium with a place in the final at stake.

Last weekend, Posh made it six games unbeaten with a 3-2 victory away at Sutton Coldfield Town courtesy of first-half goals from Hayley James and a brace from Tara Kirk. Posh secured their place in the quarter-finals with a 6-1 victory over Northampton Town Women Development.

Opponents, Wellingborough Town Ladies are flying high in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Division One South, earning promotion earlier this month with several games to spare. They most recently won 1-0 against Northampton Town Women Development. Wellingborough earnt their place in the last four following a home walkover in their quarter-final tie against Netherton United Women Reserves.

Team News

Speaking to Posh+ ahead of the game, Poole confirmed that Rebecca Mears, Emily Meli and Jess Abrantes will be in the squad following impressive performances for both the First Team and Under 23s. Lauren Wilshaw and Marthina Aguirre will return to the squad having missed last weekend’s league game.

From The Gaffer

“Wellingborough knocked our Under 23s out of the cup earlier in the competition so we know a bit about them. We work closely with the Under 23s so we know what to expect from them. Ultimately, it’s about focusing on us and being the best version of ourselves on the day. It’s another chance for our younger players and those returning from injury to be a part of the squad from the start and experience more senior football.”

One To Watch

Lauren Adams is Wellingborough’s top scorer this season with 18 goals netted in 16 appearances.

Ticket News

Tickets are priced at £2 for adults with Under 16s gaining free admission.
