Wellingborough V Posh Women U23s

Peterborough United Women Under 23s travel to the Dog and Duck Stadium as they take on Wellingborough Town Ladies FC on Sunday afternoon (2pm) in the Third Round of the Northamptonshire FA County Cup.

The fixture will be the first of the new year for Michael Allsebrook’s side and they will be keen to get off to a strong start. Posh made it to the semi-finals of the competition last year, before they were beaten 2-0 by Posh Women's First Team.

Opponents, Wellingborough Town Ladies, sit top of the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Division 1 South, having lost only once so far this season. In their last game before the new year, they defeated Thrapston Town Ladies 4-0.

Team News

Allsebrook has confirmed that Alica Podd has recovered from her ankle injury and is ready to return. However, the game has come too soon for Katie Gee, who is still returning to fitness. There will also be opportunities for some of the Under 16’s side to feature in the squad on Sunday.

Wellingborough have not been shy of scoring this season, finding the net 43 times so far. Their top goalscorer is Lauren Adams, who has scored 14 times in 10 appearances so far this season.

From The Gaffer

Allsebrook said: “I think it will be a good game, we played them in preseason and both squads were very different. We found it fairly comfortable, we had a lot of possession, we dominated the game really. Both sides have developed a lot since then, they’ve done very well in their league, they're top in it and only dropped a couple of points in it all season, so it will be a tough game. The County Cup is always interesting as our players know each other because its more local. We’re expecting a tough challenge because it’s away from home it’s always difficult as well but we’re well prepared.”

Updates of the game will be available on The Posh Girls Academy X account, with post-match reaction also on the website.
