Posh Women U23s to face Wolves Women Reserves on the opening day of the season.
Peterborough United Women U23s will begin their FA Women’s National League Reserves Midland Division campaign on Sunday afternoon (3pm) as they face Wolverhampton Wanderers Women Reserves at the Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground.
The under 23s go into the fixture after an unbeaten pre-season schedule, including 3-1 victories over Newport Pagnell Women and Watford Women Development, but will make their debut at this level for the first time on Sunday afternoon.
Opponents Wolves have a credible record in the Reserves League, as they were champions of the 2021/22 season, remaining unbeaten throughout the campaign, before finishing fifth place last season.
Team News
Michael Allsebrook will be travelling with a light squad this Sunday, with several players unavailable. There will be a chance for several debutants in this fixture, with Tilly Sands and Rachel Hardy joining the set-up whilst numerous Girls Academy players could also appear, including Rebecca Mears, Alice Akinyemi and Frankie Pim. Elloise Copson will be joining the U23s from the first team to build-up match fitness.
The Posh will have to watch out for Wolves Reserves forward Amy Hare who scored 22 goals in 20 games last season.
From The Gaffer
“It’s been a really long pre-season. We’ve built a team with its own identity and played well, they’ve gelled really nicely over the last 6-7 weeks. We know Wolves is going to be a tough test, they’re an attacking team so we need to be mindful of that. For us, it’s going to be a benchmark to understand how good we are against an established Wolves side. It’s a game we’re relishing and a game we are fully prepared for.”
Ticket News
Spectators will be able to attend with the training ground open from 2:45pm.
