Wrexham v Posh

Posh make the trip to the STōK Cae Ras to face Wrexham on Saturday afternoon (3pm).

Peterborough United travel to the STōK Cae Ras to face promotion-contenders Wrexham in Sky Bet League One action on Saturday afternoon (3pm)  - their first meeting with the Red Dragons since 2008 when two goals from Jamie Day secured a 2-0 victory.

Wrexham condemned Posh to a 2-0 defeat at the Weston Homes Stadium earlier this season thanks to goals from Jack Marriott and Max Cleworth.

The Red Dragons were beaten 2-1 by Barnsley last time out, but at home, they have been outstanding this season and have a habit of scoring late to secure victories.

TEAM NEWS

Posh are without the services of Kwame Poku, who remains sidelined due to a hamstring injury, while Rio Adebisi is out for the season.

Sam Curtis has returned to Sheffield United following his loan spell while Mahamadou Susoho is not yet ready for a return to action.

Despite suffering a rare defeat to Barnsley in their last match, a largely encouraging performance could see Parkinson opt to name a similar side for this one. Arthur Okonkwo has returned to the bench in Wrexham's last two games after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with injury, and the keeper could be in contention for a return to the starting team here.

MANAGER QUOTES

"It has been a long while since we have played Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground and when the fixtures came out, it was one that I was looking forward too. Obviously a lot has changed since I was at the club, but they have always had a strong fan base and they will be a tough side to play because they are a powerful XI, we will need to defend better and stop crosses coming into our box," Ferguson said.

ONE TO WATCH

Paul Mullin

Born and raised in Litherland, Paul Mullin (pictured below) began his illustrious career in the Liverpool Academy, before making his move to Huddersfield Town. He was signed to the Huddersfield Town squad in 2012 after impressing at their Under-18 and Under-21 youth levels, resulting in a move to Morecambe in 2014.

Mullin made his first professional appearance on August 12, 2014, after coming on as a sub in the first round of the EFL Cup, albeit losing 1-0 to Bradford City. Just days later, Mullin scored his first professional goal and it was the winner in a thriller, as Morecambe edged past Newport in a 3-2 victory. After his inspiring super-sub performance, Mullin earned his first start in professional football. The talisman scored twice in a 2-1 victory over his future club Cambridge United. Mullin had a knack of taking his opportunities when presented to him and this earned him a three-year contract at Morecambe.

He went on to play for Morecambe until 2017, where he scored 25 goals in 122 appearances to stop the Shrimps from slipping out of the Football League. His next venture would see him travel down the M62 to Swindon Town for the 2017/18 season, where he netted six times in 40 games in League 2.

Cambridge United were next to swoop in for the Liverpudlian, as they signed him in the January transfer window on a loan, where he scored two goals on his return to League 2 before the pandemic hit the nation.

The following season, 2020/21, saw practically every football match played behind closed doors. Without the influence of the fans as a 12th man, some players' performances can suffer, but for Mullin it was a life-changing season. He was voted as the League 2 Player of the Season with Cambridge, hitting an emphatic 32 goals in a league campaign which saw The U's finish second and achieve promotion to League 1.

The news broke on July 23, 2021, that Mullin – who turned down a new deal with Cambridge – would join Wrexham's new enticing journey in a bid to rise up leagues. The striker signed on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
