Posh Women set for FA Cup on Sunday afternoon against The Yachtswomen.
Peterborough United Women are back on the road on Sunday afternoon (2pm) as they travel to Trafford Park to face Wroxham Women in the first round of the Women’s FA Cup.
Dan Lawlor’s side secured another three points last weekend after a 3-1 victory over Boldmere St Michaels Women, maintaining their unbeaten status at Abbey Lawn in the league campaign and making it four victories on the bounce in all competitions.
The Posh Women will look to proceed to the next round of the cup following an impressive run in the competition last season, where the team bowed out to Barclay Women’s Championship side Durham Women in the third round.
Wroxham Women compete in the Eastern Region Women’s Football League (Premier Division) and are currently sat third in the table. The Yachtswomen advanced to the first round proper of the Women’s FA Cup with a 5-1 victory over Leyton Orient.
Team News
Speaking to Posh+ ahead of the game, Lawlor confirmed that he will have a full squad travelling to Norfolk, while forward Frankie Pim from the Under 23s could be in contention to make her debut after being named in the first team squad for the first time.
The Yachtswomen have four new signings this season, including Ella Gambell, who previously played for Norwich City, Leah Newcombe, who won the treble with Wymondham, Lily Alexander, who played for Norwich City Academy and goalkeeper Bryony Williams, who was signed for Norwich City.
From The Gaffer
“The FA Cup is a wonderful competition, it’s exciting, you get to play against loads of teams you don’t know about. I love the whole underdog thing aspect too, this is going to be like Wroxham’s cup final against us. They’re going to be up for the challenge and I think if we’re not, it’s going to be a long afternoon.
“I think they’ll make it hard for us, they’ll do their homework on us and they’re going to get after us from the start. We have to attack it ahead on , focus and make sure we’re not taking this game lightly because there’s a lot at stake; the second round of the FA Cup, the money and everything that comes with the victory. I’m really excited for it because I think it’s going to be tougher than it looks on paper”.

One To Watch
Forward Hannah Fuller is the one to watch ahead of this Sunday’s trip to Trafford Park. She has bagged 15 goals in nine appearances so far this season.
Last Time In The FA Cup
There was late drama for Posh in this stage of the competition last season, beating Stourbridge 2-1 at the Abbey Lawn after a last-minute goal in extra-time. Defender Niamh Connor headed home the opener in the first half but was cancelled out by Hannah Fishwick’s strike. After 30 minutes of extra-time, the game looked to be heading to penalties until Keir Perkins’ lofted effort found the back of the net on the 120th minute, sealing Posh’s progression to the second round for the first-ever time.
