A brace from super-sub Niamh Connor and a hat-trick from Katie Middleton were just a few goals to be named in Posh Women’s emphatic 8-0 victory over Lincoln City at Abbey Lawn.
Peterborough United Women claimed another three points in their first FAWNL home game of the season after they secured an outstanding 8-0 victory against Lincoln City Women on Sunday afternoon.
Tara Kirk had the first chance of the game as she looked to repeat last weekend’s early strike but her effort was well blocked by the keeper. Skipper Keir PERKINS opened the scoring for Posh on seven minutes after she calmly slotted home past Harriet Wayne from inside the box to claim her second goal of the season. Minutes later, Perkins fired another chance towards the top corner but the effort just went wide of the far post.
After Lauren Wilshaw’s effort hit the woodwork, MIDDLETON flew down the right and netted her first of the game from distance on 20 minutes. Soon after, Posh were awarded a penalty after Perkins was brought down in the box, but Meg Lawlor's effort from 12-yards was repelled by the Imps keeper.
Wilshaw hit the woodwork again and Hannah Dawbarn skimmed the far post before Sharpe looked to get a taste of the action with an inviting header in the box, but her effort went just wide. After the break, WILSHAW claimed her first goal for the club after a wonderful ball in from Perkins allowed her to slot the ball through the keeper’s legs on 52 minutes.
Poole made his first change on 53 minutes where fans welcomed back Niamh Connor after being out with a broken nose. No face-mask was going to deter super-sub CONNOR as she headed home from Wilshaw’s corner minutes after coming off the bench. Two minutes later, CONNOR headed in again from a Lawlor’s corner to claim her brace.
Posh continued their dominant display before MIDDLETON netted the sixth of the game on 79 minutes as she tapped home from close-range. MIDDLETON claimed her hat-trick on 86 minutes with a stunning strike from distance before Frankie PIM finished the tally two minutes later thanks to an impressive run from Wilshaw allowing her to fire home the eighth.
