Middleton looking forward to competing in The Women’s FA Cup once again this weekend against The Yachtswomen.
Peterborough United Women forward Katie Middleton relishes the opportunity of competing in The Women’s FA Cup ahead of the First Round Proper clash against Wroxham Women on Sunday afternoon (3pm).
Dan Lawlor’s side aims to reach the Second Round Proper for the second consecutive campaign - only progressing to that stage of the competition for the first time last season - but we will have to overcome Eastern Region Premier Division side Wroxham Women.
Posh enter the game on the back of four victories on the bounce in all competitions and Middleton is looking to continue that run this weekend and book their place in the next round of the competition.
“I’m so excited about the game on Sunday and playing in the FA Cup, it’s always a brilliant competition to play in. We’ve had a really good run of performances recently and have shown real resilience, character and hard work to come away with the results we have picked up.
“It’s another big game on Sunday for us to continue this run and keep performing as a team, we’ve got a very good team on our day. It will be great to have the opportunity to play against higher opposition in this competition, but our focus is purely on getting the job done this weekend against a tough opponent.”
Posh created history in the FA Cup last season - reaching the Third Round Proper for the first-ever time before bowing out to Barclays Women’s Championship side Durham - and although Middleton wasn’t part of the squad to experience that, she has heard plenty about the run and is keen to replicate it once again this season - maybe go one step further.
“A few of the players have spoken about how good it was last season to get as far as they got, reaching the Third Round Proper and playing against a Barclays Women’s Championship side, only to lose by one goal and a wonder goal by the sounds of it. It will be our aim as a team to replicate the success in the FA Cup once again this campaign and try to even push to go further, especially when you never know what can happen in this competition.”
The Yachtswomen currently compete a tier below Posh - in the Eastern Region Premier Division - and will be relishing the opportunity of creating another underdog story in this competition, with Middleton acknowledging it’s a big game for both sides, on and, notably, off the pitch.
“I think Wroxham will be very up for the game, it is a big game for both of us. Not only is it a special competition to play in, but it can result in a lot of prize money for both sides off the pitch, especially for lower-league clubs. The money is massive and I’m sure they’ll show plenty of fight to progress to the next round. So, we’re expecting a tough game but if we replicate what we have shown in the last few weeks, I’m confident we can reach the second round proper.”
