Mills agrees two-year professional development contract with the club.
Peterborough United are delighted to announce that young defender Harley Mills has signed a two-year professional development contract with the club.
The young full-back, who joined the club in 2021, was part of the squad that claimed the David Joyce Cup and U18 Professional Development League Cup, while also finishing third in the Professional Development League.
Mills, who featured on a few occasions for the under 21s last season, put pen to paper at the idverde Training Ground last week and spoke about the faith the coaching staff have shown in him last season.
“I’m buzzing to have agreed a contract with the club,” Mills said. “This opportunity has sort of come out of the blue, I just got called into the office and was told the news, then I rang my mum and dad straight away. They were really proud of me, but my dad also made it clear that I have to still got a long way to go. It’s now time to kick on as I have aspirations for what I want to achieve this season.
“Jamal [Campbell-Ryce] and Ryan [Semple] have been massive for me. I had a shaky start last season, but Jamal kept his faith in me and that gave me the confidence to go on the pitch and perform, I felt like at the end of the season I had repaid his trust in me. Harrison [Burrows] is a perfect example of someone to replicate, he came through the academy and now plays regularly for the first team, so seeing him achieve that gives you motivation.”
Jamal Campbell-Ryce said: “Harley has been outstanding since the turn of the year and has fully deserved this opportunity. He was arguably one of the most consistent performers for the under 18s last season and was a big reason for the form throughout the team at the backend of the campaign. Harley has shown how much he values defending now and has real quality when in possession of the ball and has a wonder of a left foot. We are delighted that he has agreed a contract with the club."
