Posh have completed the loan signing of Callum Morton from West Bromwich Albion.
Peterborough United are pleased to announce the signing of striker Callum Morton on-loan until the end of the current campaign from Sky Bet Championship side West Bromwich Albion with the 21-year-old completing the paperwork at the idverde Training Ground on Thursday morning.
Morton, who has enjoyed loan spells away from the Hawthorns at Northampton Town, Lincoln City and Fleetwood Town, becomes Darren Ferguson’s fourth signing of the January transfer window with Joe Taylor, Bali Mumba and Steven Benda already through the door.
Morton, who scored eight goals in 12 appearances for the Cobblers, three goals in 21 appearances at the Imps and seven goals in 22 appearances during his time with the Cod Army, will provide competition for places in the attacking areas for Ferguson’s men.
Ferguson said: “Callum has lots of energy, he is a striker that wants to play on the shoulder all of the time, he wants to penetrate in behind and I feel that is what we need. He is slightly different to what we have got in the building, particularly as Jack Marriott is injured and Ricky-Jade Jones is only just on the way back to fitness.
“He makes good runs, he presses from the front and I believe that is something that we can benefit from. Given the way the transfer market is at the moment, I feel this is a really good addition for us and I am looking forward to working with him.”
Morton said: “When I heard about the interest from Peterborough, it was a one that I wanted to explore because they play in a way that suits my game. I want to press from the front, try and play on the shoulder and get in behind but first and foremost, I will work hard for the team, always give 100% and give my absolute all.
“Sometimes when you go out on loan, it is not all about scoring goals, it is improving as an all-round player. I feel that I have done that in loan spells. This is an opportunity for me to come to a Championship club, hopefully play some games and try and help the team. I know a few of the lads already and I am sure I will settle in quickly.”
Morton is based in Yeovil and spent time with the Glovers before joining West Bromwich Albion in January 2017. While at Northampton, he helped the Cobblers to promotion from Sky Bet League Two, scoring twice in the play-off semi finals and then finding the back of the net in the final at Wembley.
Morton will be unable to face his parent club next weekend and is cup-tied from the FA Cup fourth round tie with Queens Park Rangers.
