Darren Ferguson has confirmed that Ephron Mason-Clark will be the new captain for the 2023-2024 campaign.
Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has confirmed that Ephron Mason-Clark will be the new captain for the 2023-2024 campaign with the Posh boss revealing the news exclusively on Posh+ earlier this morning.
The former Barnet man was given the armband during the second half of the pre-season victory over Stamford and Ferguson believes he is the ideal candidate. “I had a decision to make and I have taken a couple of weeks to have a think and a look at the group and the type of captain that I want moving forward.
“What I was looking for was someone that leads by example, who is professional in everything that they do, the way they train and the way they perform on the pitch and he has been fantastic since I returned to the club. He is going to play a massive part this season, I feel he is taking on board the information we are giving him, he is improving all of the time.
“I feel it is the right time for him. I had a conversation with Jonson Clarke-Harris because he was the captain, but the situation with him is simple, he is on the transfer list. I can’t have people on the list as a captain because I could make them skipper and they could leave the next day. I don’t think there is a problem with the freshness of a new captain anyway, it is obvious the direction we are going in, we have made that clear.
“Ephron is a diamond of a kid, wants to learn, I have no question he will play at a higher level, but for now, he is our new captain and I have no doubt that responsibility won’t add any pressure on him whatsoever, he is a level-headed lad, nothing fazes him,” Ferguson said.
The Posh boss confirmed that he will name a vice-captain in due course as pre-season progresses. You can watch the full interview with the manager and the first chat with the new skipper on Posh+.
