Ntege late strike sees Posh U18s into the semi-final of the cup.
Peterborough United U18s booked their place in the semi-final of the Under-18 Professional Development League Cup after a 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers U18s on Saturday morning at Hoober Homes Elite Performance Centre.
Jamal Campbell-Ryce’s side took the lead on eight minutes as midfielder Harry Titchmarsh latched onto a misplaced pass before slotting home into the bottom corner, netting his third goal in two games.
Rovers equalised with just nine minutes left to play as Harry Wood saw his effort from distance find the top corner. As the game looked to be heading into extra-time, Posh nicked a winner in the dying minutes of injury-time as the trialist’s cross found Bayley McCann at the back-post and his cut-back into the box was tapped home by Torin Ntege to seal the victory for Posh.
Campbell-Ryce said: “It was obviously disappointing to concede the goal in the manner we did, a mistake but it was a great strike from the player. However, the players stayed calm and I thought we definitely controlled the game and deserved the winner. They are obviously a lot of pleasing things from the game, including reaching the semi-final of the competition, but also the intent of the players from what I’m asking for and they are executing.
“We work on plenty of stuff during the week and the application of them was outstanding and they are now reaping the rewards. My job now is to keep their feet on the ground for this weekend coming. We have two wins in two, we just want to follow that up with a positive performance against Burnley, which will be a tough fixture.”
Posh XI: West, Dornelly, Arthur, Toynton, Mills, Unwin, Titchmarsh, Challinor, Marshall, Kelmendi, Ntege.
