Young defender Charlie O’Connell is back at Posh after a loan spell at Woking and is keen to make an impact before the end of the season.
Peterborough United defender Charlie O’Connell is back in PE2 after a loan spell with Vanarama National League promotion contenders Woking and is hoping to make an impact back at his parent club between now and the end of the Sky Bet League One campaign.
O’Connell signed a long-term contract at the football club in December 2022 prior to his loan move to the Cards and marked his return to Posh with a goal and an assist in a 5-0 victory over Birmingham City for the under 21s earlier this week.
“It has been a bit of a whirlwind couple of days. I am pleased to be back at the club and I was straight into 90 minutes for the under 21s at Birmingham. It was my first time playing under Ryan Semple and Danny Walker and I really enjoyed it. It was nice to assist and score on my return.
“I really enjoyed the loan spell at Woking. I got a bit of a break when the right-back was suspended and I came into the team and with my versatility, I think I have played midfield and at centre back during my time with them. The National League is a really strong league, there are a lot of good teams in there and Woking have had a really good run of form and I really enjoyed playing there under the manager. He was great.
“This season, I have played in the cup competitions for the club and my aim now is to try and break into the first team in the league, but there are a lot good players here so I have to remain patient, train well, work hard and put in good performances for the under 21s when I get the opportunity,” O’Connell said.
Manager Darren Ferguson added: “It is important to have Charlie back with us at the club between now and the end of the season. He has a lot of versatility to his game. He has committed his future to the club long-term and it is important we have a look at him in training.”
