Abraham Odoh scoring against West Brom

Posh continue preparations for the new campaign with a strong performance against Championship opposition.

After the midweek victory over non-league Spalding United, it was a step up in class in terms of the opposition for Darren Ferguson's Peterborough United as they took on Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-finalists from last term, West Bromwich Albion, in a behind closed doors friendly at St. George's Park.

It proved to be a a good workout for Posh, who played some excellent football on the first team pitch at St George's Park, which is the training base for the national side.

The Baggies, who fielded a strong side, with two different XI's deployed, eventually ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Brandon Thomas-Asante and an unfortunate own goal by Romoney Crichlow.

Posh had penalty appeals waved away inside the opening five minutes as David Ajiboye appeared to be felled in the area.

On 10 minutes, superb work from summer signing Chris Conn-Clarke presented a chance for Abraham Odoh, but his shot was diverted wide by goalkeeper Alex Palmer.

Conn-Clarke saw a low drive comfortably held by Palmer moments later before opposing number one Jed Steer produced a nice stop from a well-struck volley.

On 20 minutes, Steer produced a fine double stop, first keeping out a low Thomas-Asante strike before bouncing up to keep out the rebound by Ollie Bostock.

Emmanuel Fernandez glanced a header over the top from a teasing Harley Mills cross with Odoh firing wide on the volley two minutes later after a quickly-taken throw-in.

Thomas-Asante drilled a shot wide of the near post before the former Salford City striker headed home from close-range after a teasing Swift centre.

The Baggies changed their entire XI at the break with Posh making just two changes as Nick Biokapic and Kwame Poku were introduced into the fray.

Ajiboye saw an early second half effort saved at the near post before Posh drew themselves level as ODOH raced clear and finished well past the keeper.

Conn-Clarke saw a shot blocked two minutes later after good work from Jones before Posh made wholesale changes. Jacob Wakeling headed wide from a free-kick before the Baggies nudged ahead as Crichlow could only divert a low cross past his own goalkeeper from close-range.

Mo Faal was denied by Bilokapic on 76 minutes sa the Baggies enjoyed a long spell of the ball as Posh introduced two more players from the Academy.
