Posh celebrate scoring against Shrewsbury Town

Kwame Poku and Joel Randall both netted a brace as Posh recorded a 4-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town.

Peterborough United recorded their first win of the season as Darren Ferguson’s men came from behind to beat Shrewsbury Town 4-1 at the Croud Meadow with Kwame Poku and Joel Randall both bagging braces on an entertaining afternoon in Shropshire.

There were plenty of early chances for Posh with Randall denied by Savin after a lightening break and Poku firing inches wide of the target via a deflection. On nine minutes, Sam Curtis saw a left-footed effort claimed by Savin who made a much better stop on 12 minutes to tip over a Poku curler.

On 20 minutes, the hosts opened the scoring against the run of play as Carl WINCHESTER arrowed a shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. The lead didn’t last long though as POKU found the bottom corner with his right-foot from the angle on 22 minutes.

Malik Mothersille had a great opportunity to put Posh ahead moments later as he raced clear, but Savin managed to get part of his body on the ball and divert the effort away from danger. Jack Sparkes was substituted on 37 minutes after a performance that was hampered by illness with James Dornelly coming on in his place.

Collins fired over from distance before Posh had a great chance to extend their advantage just before the break as Curtis pulled the ball back for Mothersille, but he couldn’t force the ball home from close-range.

Aaron Pierre headed wide from a deep cross two minutes into the second half with John Marquis cautioned for a foul on Steer. On 58 minutes, Posh got their noses in front as POKU fired an unstoppable first-time left-footed shot past Savin from just inside the box.

On 75 minutes, Collins did well to block a close-range Pierre header before Ferguson introduced Ricky-Jade Jones for Mothersille in attack. Jones immediately caused panic with his pace, his low centre was nearly bundled home by Poku before Posh made the game safe as RANDALL tapped home after more good work from Jones.

A minute later it was 4-1 and it was RANDALL again as he slotted past Savin as Posh swarmed all over their opponents. Deep into stoppage time, Poku had the chance to get his hat-trick, but he slammed his effort against the crossbar.
