Kwame Poku celebrates scoring his winning goal against Stevenage

Kwame Poku popped up to bag the winner with almost the last kick of the game as Posh overcame Stevenage 2-1 at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Football is ultimately about results. While the performance was not anywhere near where the management would have wanted, the three points were pocketed as Kwame Poku fired home in the last minute to secure a 2-1 victory over Stevenage.

It was a great start for Darren Ferguson's men as they opened the scoring on five minutes as Donay O'BRIEN-BRADY fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area for his first goal in the EFL.

Poku saw a shot blocked on seven minutes before the same man won back possession and picked out Malik Mothersille in the left-hand channel, but he fired over.

Dan Butler was cautioned on 23 minutes for a foul before goalkeeper Jed Steer produced a fine stop to keep out Jordan Roberts who had wriggled into the box.

Jack Sparkes did well to get back and block from Young moments later before the half-time whistle brought an end to a competitive 45 minutes.

Posh made two changes at the break with Joel Randall and James Dornelly introduced into the fray and Posh were inches away from a second goal on 55 minutes as Randall's toe-poke went inches wide.

Steer did well to divert a deflected Phillips effort over the bar just before the hour mark while Piergianni headed straight at the former Villa custodian.

Tyreece Simpson was denied by Steer before the visitors did level as Louis THOMPSON rifled a shot into the back of the net from an acute angle.

Randall fired over and Poku flicked an effort wide before skipper Archie Collins was cautioned, meaning he will be suspended for the clash with Rotherham next weekend.

Emmanuel Fernandez was squeezed out after a good pass from substitute Ryan De Havilland on 80 minutes and in the last minute of stoppage time, POKU fired through a crowd of bodies to secure all three points after a Sparkes corner had caused carnage.
