The Club have been accredited with the SGF Silver Quality Mark accreditation from Safeguarding Fundamentals to highlight the best-in-class standards upheld by across the football club.
Safeguarding Fundamentals is a quality mark to support the understanding of safeguarding within an organisation and keep all players, participants, staff and supporters safe from harm.
The organisation is operated by Antonia Noble, a barrister with a global reputation in the safeguarding, and former England international footballer Paul Stewart, who includes both Manchester City, Liverpool & Tottenham Hotspur among his previous clubs and was an FA Cup winner in 1991.
Paul is an inspirational character, who has dedicated his next stage of his career to shining a light into sports clubs, empowering this generation of sports stars and those who work with them to understand how to stay safe and the importance of safeguarding, so that others are not affected by the abuse which marked his early life inside professional sports.
In 2016 Paul waived his anonymity and spoke about the physical and sexual abuse he endured at the hands of a youth coach as a ten-year-old growing up in Manchester. Paul has joined the EFL's Life Skills Team to raise awareness about the importance of safeguarding.
Safeguarding Fundamentals include former international footballers Gary Lineker, Bryan Robson, Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler, Alan Smith, Gary Mabbutt and Les Ferdinand among their ambassadors.
The Club will be holding further events in association with Safeguarding Fundamentals in the New Year to further raise awareness of safeguarding both within the football club and our various partners including schools and grassroots partners.
