Posh confirm the arrival of defender Jenson Sumnall on a one-year contract, with the option of a second year.
The Club have completed the signing of defender Jenson Sumnall on a one-year contract, with the option of a second year. The 18-year-old completed the formalities at the idverde Training Ground yesterday surrounded by his family and will make the move to PE2 from West Bromwich Albion.
He will link up with the Under 21 squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
The centre-back has been with the Baggies since 2021, joining the Championship club from Southern League Central Premier Division side Stourbridge. He made 18 appearances in the U18 Premier League South during his maiden term, standing him in good stead for his second term, where he regularly captained the team.
He joins the Club on the back of an appearance as a trialist for the Under 21’s for a fixture against Fleetwood Town in April. A single goal from Donay O’Brien-Brady secured a 1-0 win.
Posh Academy Manager Dan Robinson is delighted with the signing, he said: “Jenson is a player we have been watching for a while at West Bromwich Albion and I am really looking forward to working with him as part of our U21 group. He is a ball playing centre-back, who has great leadership qualities and will no doubt continue his development with our professional development phase coaches.”
Sumnall can’t wait to get started at Posh and is excited to be joining the club. “I’m over the moon to be joining such a prestigious club.
“I have been made to feel very welcome, having spent two years at West Brom I feel I have developed well as a player and off the pitch too, so I am ready to kick on here at Posh.
“If you look at the Club’s record of progressing players through, it’s really good and ultimately why I am here. When you see young players like Ronnie Edwards playing first team football it is exciting, it’s what I aspire to do.”
