Posh held to a goalless draw by Bristol Rovers.
Peterborough United were held to a 0-0 draw by Bristol Rovers at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday afternoon as play-off hopes continue into the final day of the Sky Bet League One campaign.
Posh started the game positively as Jack Taylor flicked on Joe Ward’s corner at the near-post and looked to be heading in, but it took a few deflections before falling into the hands of Ellery Balcombe. Darren Ferguson was forced into an early change as Nathanael Ogbeta was unable to continue and was replaced by Dan Butler on 20 minutes.
The visitors' first opportunity fell on 26 minutes as Josh Coburn tried his luck from distance, but dragged his effort wide of the post. On the half-hour mark, Jonson Clarke-Harris sent a thunderous strike towards, but failed to hit the target.
Eight minutes later, Clarke-Harris tried his luck from a similar distance and forced Balcombe into a fantastic save as The Gas’ goalkeeper pushed his effort around the post. The visitors had created the first opportunity of the second half on 55 minutes as Aaron Collins worked the ball onto his right-foot, but his curling effort took a deflection and went straight into the hands of Norris.
Posh made a second change on 57 minutes as Hector Kyprianou replaced Oliver Norburn, who booked midway through the first half. Jack Taylor looked to create a bit of magic just before the hour mark as he advanced from the centre circle into the box, but his effort was blocked by a number of The Gas’ defence.
On 67 minutes, Butler’s floated cross found Clarke-Harris inside the box and he tried an acrobatic effort, sending an effort well over the bar. Arguably the best chance for Posh came on 75 minutes as Ephron Mason-Clark raced towards the byline and his cross was met by Clarke-Harris at the near-post, who glanced his header wide of the far-post.
Will Norris was called into action in the final 10 minutes as he pushed away Aaron Collins’ effort from distance. Sam Finley then fired an effort from the edge of the box well over the bar as the two sides settled for a point in the penultimate game of the League One campaign.
