Posh have completed the loan signing of Swansea City goalkeeper Steven Benda.
Peterborough United have bolstered their goalkeeping ranks with the signing of Swansea City shot-stopper Steven Benda on a loan deal until the end of the current campaign with the 6ft4 custodian completing the paperwork at the idverde Training Ground on Tuesday morning.
The German goalkeeper, who has featured in seven games for the Swans this season in the Sky Bet Championship and EFL Cup, keeping three clean sheets along the way, has passed his medical and will go straight into contention for Saturday’s fixture with Coventry City at the Weston Homes Stadium.
Manager Darren Ferguson said: "He is a good addition and will provide good competition. We have two good goalkeepers fighting for one place. This will mean we can get young Will Blackmore out on loan, which is important for us.
"Steven has got good Championship experience, is a really good size at 6ft 4, is decent with his feet and I am really looking forward to working with him."
Benda added: “It was a move that really interested me. I want to play regular first team football and hopefully I can do that here. It is great that it has been done at the start of the week, it means I can meet my new team-mates, train hard and see where that takes me ahead of the weekend.
“I like to think I am an all-round goalkeeper, I think you have to be these days, but I like to try and use my height to come out and claim crosses and hopefully take a bit of pressure off the defenders in front of me.”
Benda made 27 appearances for Swindon Town during the 2019-2020 campaign, helping the Robins secure promotion. He moved to Swansea from Germany in 2017. “I wanted to come and sample a different country, a different culture and growing up in Germany, you always see the Premier League and how good football is over here,” Benda concluded.
