Peterborough United have completed the signing of midfielder Ryan De Havilland for an undisclosed fee from Vanarama National League side Barnet, with the 22-year-old penning a four-year contract after completing the formalities at the idverde Training Ground on Monday.
De Havilland made 65 appearances for the Bees, scoring nine times in the process and follows a successful chain of players to have made the move from the Hive to PE2 in recent years, with Jack Taylor, Ronnie Edwards and Ephron Mason-Clark all arriving from the capital. De Havilland spent 11 years at Fulham within their successful Academy system and also enjoyed a loan spell at Met Police during his time at the Cottagers.
Manager Darren Ferguson was delighted to get the deal over the line. “Ryan is one we have known about for a while. He had a good upbringing at Fulham, he has gone down the pyramid to work his way back up again and that fits in with some of the players we have signed in the past.
“He has had a really good learning curve at Barnet and he has performed very well, we think we have a good player on our hands. He is a box-to-box midfield player, he has a good engine and he is both footed, which is very rare these days. His set-pieces were good last season as well.
“It is a signing that we are happy with, we are looking forward to working with him, he is a good age and has a lot of development in him. I think he will be a big signing for us, he will fit in really well,” Ferguson said.
De Havilland is excited about signing on the dotted line in PE2. “When I heard of the interest from the club in the summer, it was something that I wanted to pursue. I would describe myself as a box-to-box midfield player, I want to get forward and get into areas to score and assist goals.
“I feel that I learned a lot during my time at Barnet. I felt that it was move that I needed, the physical side of the game I needed to improve on and I felt that my time in the National League has really helped me in that respect. It is pleasing to get it all done right at the start of pre-season, I can now look forward to what is to come.
“I obviously know Ephron Mason-Clark and Emmanuel Fernandez from Barnet and it is always nice to see a few familiar faces on the first day of pre-season. I am looking forward to what is to come,” De Havilland said.
