Posh U18s return to action on Saturday morning against The Tykes.
Peterborough United U18s are on the road in their first game of 2023 as they face Barnsley FC U18s at Barnsley FC Training Ground on Saturday morning (11am) in a Under-18 Professional Development League fixture.
Jamal Campbell-Ryce’s side haven’t had a game since late November due to postponements and the festive break, previously falling to a 2-1 defeat to Hull City in their last league fixture.
The under 18s currently sit third in the table after a positive first half of the season, while The Tykes lead the way at the top of the table and are three points ahead of Posh, having played three fewer games.
Speaking ahead of the game, Campbell-Ryce said: “We obviously had the Christmas period, but before that, we had cancellations due to the weather, so it was difficult to keep the player motivated when we were just training.
“The players are in a good place in the first half of the season, so it will be about picking the players back-up and carrying where they left off, which will be difficult. However, I’m looking forward to being back and excited to get going.
“Barnsley are an aggressive side, work really hard, always pressing on the front-foot. My message over the last couple of days has been about bravery and being confident in what we do, matching their physicality and competing with them, which is non-negotiable.”
Forward Joel Odei-Labri returned to training this week following a lengthy spell on the sidelines and will be assessed to see if he can feature in Saturday’s game.
Updates of the game will be provided as much as possible on The Posh Academy Twitter account (@theposhacademy).
