Peterborough United U18s begin their Under-18 Premier League Cup on Saturday morning (11:30am) as they welcome West Bromwich Albion to the idverde Training Ground in the opening game of the group stage.
The under 18s secured their place in this competition after winning the Under-18 Professional Development League Cup last season, beating Birmingham City 3-1 at the Weston Homes Stadium.
Posh will also face category one academy sides Manchester City and Everton in their group and U18s Professional Development Phase Coach Hugh Alban Jones is excited for the challenge to go head-to-head against some of the best academies in the country.
Jones said: “It’s a really good opportunity for us to go test ourselves against arguably some of the best sides in the country. It’s a reward for all the hardwork we did last season by winning the Professional Development League Cup and all the players are looking forward to the challenge ahead of them.
“We know West Brom will be a strong opposition, they will look to play good football and always on the front foot. However, we have shown the players some clips of them, highlighting where we feel they will be strong and where we can hurt them, but ultimately it’s about our performance and how we implement our style of football on them.”
Albion compete in the Premier League Under-18 South Division and have picked up four points in their opening three games, beating Norwich City 1-0 last weekend and holding Arsenal to a 1-1 draw.
