Posh U18s suffer a narrow defeat to The Clarets.
Peterborough United U18s suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Burnley U18s on Saturday afternoon at Barnfield Training Centre in the Professional Development League, with Adam McCoy securing the three points for The Clarets.
Lucas Wane was close to breaking the deadlock for the hosts as Adam McCoy sent the ball across the pitch, but Wane failed to get his strike away before the ball moved wide out of play. Posh had their first opportunity as Max Beech found Torin Ntege in the box, but Vilar Robinson did well to keep his strike out.
The Clarets pushed for an opener as Jack Rogers linked up with Vernon Masara, with Jake West on hand to save the latter’s effort. The hosts found the breakthrough on the stroke of half-time as Zac Johnson fizzed the ball across the box and found McCoy, who hammered the ball into the top right corner.
West was called into action in the early stages of the second half, keeping out Benji Wetshi’s effort. On a positive note, forward Joel Odei-Larbi made his return from injury and featured for the final 15 minutes in Lancashire.
Posh pushed for an equaliser in added time as Ntege advanced into the box, but was unable to shrug off The Clarets’ defenders Jack Rogers and Logan Carlin.
Posh XI: West, Gilbert, Toynton, Rose, Mills, Holley, Marcon, Beech, Kelmendi, Davies, Ntege.
Subs: Sakalas, Fox, McWilliams-Marcano, Trialist, Odei-Larbi.
The under 18s are back in action on Thursday evening as they begin their FA Youth Cup journey with a trip to Mornflake Stadium to face Crewe Alexandra U18s in the first round of the competition.
