Posh U18s booked their place in the semi-final of the U18 David Joyce Cup on Tuesday evening.
Peterborough United U18s secured their place in the semi-final of the U18 David Joyce Cup after a 1-0 victory over Kettering Town U18s at Latimer Park, with defender Joe Toynton netting the winner in the closing stages of the game.
Jamal Campbell-Ryce’s men continue to catch the eyes with their performances, making it six games unbeaten in all competitions following the win at Latimer Park, but the under 18s were made to be patient against The Young Poppies, with most opportunities falling late in the second half.
The deadlock was eventually broken on 85 minutes as a free-kick near the byline was whipped into the box and Toynton rose the highest to head home to claim the victory for the under 18s.
Speaking on the game, U18s boss Campbell-Ryce said: “It was a different game to what we have been used to before, we were the superior team and controlled possession, but they just sat in a low block and we found that difficult to break down. They were some really good bits and our build-up play was good, but we lacked creativity throughout the game and that's something to work on.
“However, it was a good experience for the players and it’s another positive result. We are in a good place at the moment, but got to keep the players' feet on the ground and continue to build on this momentum and look for another result on Saturday against Barnsley.”
Posh XI: West, Marcon, Dornelly, Toynton, McCann, Mills, Challinor, Rose, Kelmendi, Winters, Marshall.
Subs: Arthur, Unwin, Pratt, Davies, Baker, Graves, Gilbert.
Posh U18s return to Under-18 Professional Development League action on Saturday as they welcome Barnsley U18s to the idverde Training Ground.
