Posh U18s to face The Clarets on Saturday morning.
Peterborough United U18s return to Under-18 Professional Development League action on Saturday morning (11am) as they travel to Barnfield Training Centre to face Burnley U18s.
Jamal Campbell-Ryce’s men reached the semi-final of the Under-18 Professional Development League Cup last weekend after Torin Ntege scored in injury-time to secure a 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers.
The under 18s will look to make it back-to-back wins in the league, while The Clarets could leapfrog Posh with a victory on Saturday morning, sitting in fifth on 18 points.
Forward Gabe Overton will miss this weekend’s game after he picked up an injury on his return, while manager Campbell-Ryce confirmed that a few more U16s could be involved in the squad.
Speaking ahead of the game, Campbell-Ryce said: “We have had a good couple of weeks after a disjointed Christmas period, with loads of games being called off because of the weather and it’s always difficult when you train without a purpose. It will be a tough game on Saturday with plenty of travelling, which will be good for the players to have that experience, but it will be interesting to see how they cope with it and a different style of football. They are very direct, so it will be about coping with that and having the confidence to be about us.
“We had a player on trial in the last couple of weeks and midfielder Thomas Unwin from the U16s, who have both been outstanding for us. Thomas, unfortunately, won’t be part of the squad this weekend, but we have another opportunity for U16s player Luke Gilbert to come in. It has been brilliant for those younger players to come in and they have all done well.
“I say to these players, time and time again, that football is all about mindset and being mentally strong. Gabe was delighted to be back last week and we were pleased to have him back, but one thing that he will learn is about making his mindset stronger. He will overcome this latest setback, we are all behind him and know what he’s capable of.”
Updates of the game will be provided as much as possible on The Posh Academy Twitter account (@theposhacademy).
